More about First Friday Series:

The First Friday Series consists of two informal performances, with a Q&A afterward. In order to highlight your artistic work and expose you to the vastly supportive dance community in Charlottesville, we ask all choreographers to show their work twice- at 6pm and 7pm. The seating in our performance space is limited, and we would like as many people as possible to attend your show.

The purpose of the First Friday Series is to support independent choreographers and small companies looking for a venue to show all types of dance choreography. Miki Liszt Dance Company likes to foster conversations amongst choreographers and audience members. We end the 7pm performance with a Q&A so that if you wish you may use the performance as a laboratory for audience response and feedback.

Artists who have appeared in the past include Jane Franklin Dance, Monica Bill Barnes, Shannon Hummell, Dim Sum Dance, Ground Zero, Kaye Weinstein, Shane O'Hara, thompson & trammel, and Miki Liszt Dance Company.

The series is ongoing September through April. A more ambitious May concert, Max 10: A Choreographer’s Showcase presents a wide variety of companies and individual choreographers. There is a small stipend of $200 awarded to each company or choreographer whose work is presented in the First Friday Series. There is no stipend for Max 10 performances so income can be directed toward higher production costs. Please send us a short sample of your work on DVD or videocassette. It does not have to be a piece you include in your First Friday presentation, although it can be. Please include a $25 processing fee. Pieces you choose to present on the program can be complete or works in progress. Be sure to label your video with your name and title of the piece being shown. If you wish to have the video returned, please include a SASE envelope with your inquiry. Props and shoes, if used, should not be in any way damaging to the floor or the walls i.e, leaving streaks or scuffs, coloring, etc.

We look forward to hearing from you.
