Miki Liszt Dance Company's First Friday Dance Series will present AV Dance and rva dance collective. These companies will be presenting three works titled, "Burg Bubble", "Urban Country Love" and "call to arms".

AV Dance was created in 2010 by Artistic Director, Ashley Valo. Valo's choreographic work is often a long process of experimentation and improvisation. Each work is highly influenced by a certain topic, which usually includes the discussion of the performers. These topics are generated to spark the mind of movement phrases, which may or may not be used in performance.

Ashley Valo, created "Burg Bubble" while attending a five-day choreography intensive workshop in July 2011. It was created based on the idea of being trapped in the process of choreography, displaying the struggles and relief of finding satisfying choreography. The sound was also constructed by Valo as a symbolization of the personal relationships created during the time period in which the work was made. It also signifies the feeling of solitude and disconnect from her usual life routine, which had been altered greatly during the rigorous creation process.

When rva dance collective invited AV Dance to choreograph for the 2011-2012 season, Valo created "Urban Country Love." This work is the result and conflict of her struggle between the artistic life she used to live in the country and the artistic life she currently lives in the city. The movement was created in collaboration with rva dance collective company members when questioned about their personal experience and/or conflict of city life vs. country life. This is a work in progress.

rva dance collective sprung from the creative collaboration between artistic directors Jess Burgess (jessburgess |dance) and Danica Kalemdaroglu (DK Dance Productions). Burgess and Kalemdaroglu work to bridge the gap between artists of all mediums in the city of Richmond. Formed under the assumption that great art cannot survive or thrive without the spirit of collaboration, rva dance collective's artistic goal is the union of all forms of art in the central Virginia area. Burgess and Kalemdaroglu have worked with visual artists, poets, film artists, musicians and theatre artists in the spirit of finding absolute creativity.

"call to arms" was co-choreographed by rva dance collective directors Danica Kalemdaroglu and Jess Burgess, is a multi-media rally cry to a youth filled generation stuck in the middle of present day sociopolitical unrest. From the global economy to the endless barrage of changing trends in pop-culture, "call to arms" unifies the muffled voices of a generation expected to accept and endure without confrontation. The piece is layered with projected stop action photography by local Richmond photographer, Dave Parrish. The audience will be visually engulfed by the angst of voices unheard.
